Yacht Jobs: 3 Ways to Stay Positive During the Search
Whether you're a seasoned veteran or an aspiring yachtie, we've all been there at some point: you've been looking for that perfect yacht job, and it's been weeks and still nothing seems to be the right fit! It's easy to get down in the dumps or panic-accept the first job that comes your way because funds are running low. Take a deep breath and read on to see 3 ways to stay positive during your yacht job search:
1. Focus on things within your control
You may not be able to will that captain to call you back or hire you, but you can do your best to keep putting yourself out there. Use every possible avenue available to you so captains can find you (like signing up for Crew4Yacht's free crew portal) and keep networking. Trust that the right opportunity is around the corner — it's true that there is a yacht for every crew, this industry runs the gamut of diverse itineraries, captains, owners, and pay. Keep letting your network know you're still looking.
2. Spend time with positive people
You are the average of 5 people you spend the most time with. If you surround yourself with positive and happy people (bonus if they're fellow yachties), the more likely you'll stay mentally and emotionally strong and positive through the job hunt. It's ok to get discouraged from time to time, we're all human. But keep active, social, and spend time with positive influencers to help you stay motivated and prevent job hunt burnout.
3. Supplement your income
Find freelance/daywork in the meantime to keep you going. It will keep you busy while earning you cash, not to mention it may connect you to another captain that could lead to a full-time position! One captain's dayworker is another captain's new full-time hire.
Good luck to all those yachties out there, and pass this along to anyone who could use a positivity boost!
